What tokens are
Lurus Tokens serve as usage credit for AI actions in Lurus. A technical AI token does not automatically equal one Lurus Token: we convert usage data such as input, output and cache usage into billed Lurus Tokens using model-dependent factors.
- Normal chats consume tokens for your input, the relevant context and the response.
- Tools can consume additional tokens, for example web search, Deep Research, file/document analysis, document generation, image generation or integrations.
- Large files, long chats, long outputs, multiple tool steps and larger models typically increase usage.
Free starting credit
As a new user, you receive 100,000 free Lurus Tokens and can get started without a credit card or time limit. Lurus manages this quota technically. Once it is exhausted, you receive a notice or can no longer start additional usage-consuming actions.
Usage display and quotas
Lurus stores and displays token usage for responses, chat histories and quotas. Team users can also be limited by team quotas, personal member limits or team policies. Expensive actions can reserve tokens before they start and settle or release the reservation after completion based on actual usage.

Saving tokens
You can save tokens by choosing the appropriate working mode and avoiding unnecessary context. Use Deep Research, large files and long document generation mainly when the additional effort is justified.
- Choose a suitable model or Auto mode instead of always using the largest model.
- Start a new chat when old context is no longer relevant to the task.
- Upload only files that are needed for the concrete task.
- Write precise prompts and state the desired format, length and goal.
- Use web search for current facts and Deep Research for genuinely complex research.
