Local storage is the most consistent approach to data privacy in AI usage. While other providers store your chat histories on their servers – often in the US or other third countries – your data stays completely on your device with Lurus. This means: no cloud storage, no third-party access, no data sharing. Even in the unlikely event of a server hack, your local data is unaffected since it simply does not exist on our servers.

GDPR Art. 5 – Data Minimization
With local storage, chat histories are only stored on your device – not on our servers. This corresponds to the principle of data minimization under GDPR Art. 5(1)(c): only the data necessary for the purpose is processed.
Protection from the US CLOUD Act
US authorities can demand access to data stored by US companies via the CLOUD Act. Since Lurus stores your chat histories locally on your device and AI processing takes place exclusively on EU servers, this access is technically impossible.
BSI Recommendations
Local storage follows the recommendations of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) for data classification and protection of sensitive business data. Encryption, access control, and data sovereignty are central pillars of our architecture.

IndexedDB Storage
Lurus uses IndexedDB, a powerful browser database, for local storage. This technology enables storing large amounts of data directly in the browser – fast, reliable, and without server communication.
Device-level Encryption
All locally stored data is encrypted with AES-256. The encryption key is securely delivered to your device – encryption and decryption happen exclusively locally. Even with physical access to the device, the data is unreadable without the key.
No persistent storage
With local storage enabled, Lurus has only temporary access to your chat to process your request.
Export & Portability
You can export your locally stored data at any time – as a structured JSON format. This gives you full portability, allowing you to transfer data to a new device or save it as a backup.
